SLIG - Advanced Genealogical Methods

Thomas W. Jones, Ph.D., CG, CGL, FASG, and newest FUGA edits the National Genealogical Society Quarterly and is widely known for his analytical use of indirect evidence. Tom will be teach methods of research, analysis, correlation, and compilation. Participants in the Advanced Genealogical Methods course are requested to complete two reading assignments before arriving, as well as three in-course homework assignments. Participants in this course are sure to leave with new tools for gleaning information from every record type.

Topics to be covered will be:

  • Rural and Urban Map Strategies: Analysis, Interpretation, and Correlation
  • Local Land Records: Analysis, Interpretation, and Correlation
  • Federal Land Records: Analysis, Interpretation, and Correlation
  • Probate Strategies: Analysis, Interpretation, and Correlation
  • Bringing Law to Bear on Complex Genealogical Problems
  • Special Problems I: Finding Immigrant and Migrant Origins
